Catalogue: Year 1 lectures
This is a catalogue I designed and made with all onformation and thoughts on our year 1 CTS lectures.
Design choices:
Since the catalogue’s main focus is the actual written text, I wanted to ensure that the text is written as well as possible. The type of design that I chose to go with, was a fresh and cute style. I decided to try out something new that I have never done before. I usually go minimalistic, big image and black text style. So for this catalogue design I went totally the opposite, small images, colourful text and almost nothing in black.
When it came the choice of material, I wanted to go with different kinds of paper, yet I had to make it as cheap as possible since I am on a really tight budget. The main pages are printed out on plain white paper and the essay is printed on a colourful thinner paper, designed in a more “official essay” format. To make the catalogue’s design even more interesting, I added a few little foldouts and a more interactive page to the surveillance section. The hole in the middle of the page represents a camera lens. It went well with the blog post talking about surveillance and having someone constantly watching over you.
For the binding I chose to go with a more playful and visible binding method. As I mentioned previously, I wanted to challenge myself with the design and that is why I chose a binding method that I never done before, Japanese binding.
Since most of the text in the book is fairly intense and there is a lot of information, I chose to go with a small, handy sized book. If I had chosen A4, I believe that it would have been too heavy and I would not have wanted to read it. In my opinion, the size and design I chose makes it more interesting and invites me to read through the book.
